Hello Everyone,
Does anyone have a comparison of Cognos with SSRS?
regards,
Abhishek.I think there really isn't a whole lot where you can even compare them.
Sure SSRS can report from BI (Cubes) - but even that is very limitted to the
real analysis your users will want - it's not a true end to end tool - just
a pretty good well rounded inexpensive (nearly free - but relative)
reporting tool.
Cognos and Proclarity type tools are true end to end tools for the BI stuff.
We were quoted under $30k for Proclarity - we haven't even tried to look at
Cognos as we understand them to be more near the $100k area. Proclarity got
bought up by M$ and integrates well with SSRS - not sure how Cognos does it.
The Proclarity stuff is really cool and does some really neat stuff.

per end user license.
Proclarity has been rebranded by MS as Performance Point and is
currently in beta. If you're thinking that it might have pretty good
hooks into SQL 2005 and SharePoint, you would be correct. I haven't seen
any pricing info on the 2007 release.
